Terrorists planning to disrupt LS polls: IB

Terrorist Training Camps
New Delhi, Apr 9: About 900 militants are allegedly waiting to infiltrate into the Jammu and Kashmir, across the LoC aiming to disrupt the Lok Sabha elections that is scheduled to happen between Apr 16 and May 13, according to the Intelligence sources.

IB does not rule out the chances of the militants entering India through the Rajasthan and Punjab regions. However, reports of Taliban men entering the JK region has been denied by the officials.

Army and intelligence estimate around 800-900 militants present in Jammu & Kashmir, with around 48% of them being of foreign origin. Another 400 or so from Lashkar, Hizb and Al-Badr cadres are waiting along the LoC for a chance to cross over. There are around 40 terror-training camps directed against India operating in Pakistan.A senior officer said that the militants are slowed down by the LoC fence which was erected in 2004. But this year there are larger number of intruders who are better equipped in terms of weaponry and training. "If they are detected, they are ready to hold ground and fight back from positions of advantage," he added.

The armed forces are on high alert and larger number of troops are deployed to secure the region. The IAF Mi-17 helicopters are now in service to ferry troops and supplies to encounter sites.
