Chandigarh, Apr 8: Protests marred Punjab when members of the Sikh community showed their disagreement over CBI giving clean chit to the Congress leader Tytler in the 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots. They took to demonstrations on the streets in Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Beas, Patiala and Sangrur towns and blocked rail traffic on Wednesday, Apr 8.
The incident Jarnail Singh, a sikh journalist with Dainik Jagran hurling shoe at P Chidambaram for refusing to answer his question on Anti-Sikh riots seems to have fueled the anger among the Sikhs.
The members of Sant Samaj including those from organizations like Damdami Taksal and Dal Khalsa blocked raiway tracks at several parts of Punjab. Amritsar-Darbhanga Flying Express was stopped in Amritsar while the Amritsar-Ludhiana passenger train was confronted by the rioters in Jalandher.
Apart from this he said that the administration stopped the Jamnagar-Jammu train at the Theru station as a precaution.

Deepak Kumar, deputy superintendent of police of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) remarked, "Around 50-60 Sikh agitators had gathered since morning... Taking advance precautionary measures, the administration here has stopped the Flying Express on its own. Police personnel have also been deployed at various sensitive places of the city." Apart from this he said that the administration stopped the Jamnagar-Jammu train at the Theru station as a precaution.
