Army seizes 25kg RDX, infiltration on rise in JK

Indian Army
Srinagar, Apr 8: Creating panic ahead of the nation going to Lok Sabha polls, 25 kg Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was defused by the the Indian Army and police in Anantnag of Jammu and Kashmir. The explosives was found near the railway station in Bijbehara of the district.

Railway line in Jammu and Kashmir was inagurated in Oct 2009, as part of the Central government's decision to connect the state to rest of the nation.

There are also reports of rise in infiltration bid in the Line of Control (LoC) and increasing presence of Taliban across the border. Earlier Army source suggest that atleast 35 militants sneaked into Indian territory through Gurej sector, near LoC in Jammu and Kashmir. The information was revealed after the army intercepted a radio conversation between Lashkar e Toiba (LeT) and Taliban terrorists.

Intelligence inputs further suggest that the terrorists entered JK with a mission to strike during elections. Hizbul Mujahiddeen is believed to be helping terrorists to enter the country.

Compared to the earlier pattern of infiltration bid, the militants are this time directly engaging in fully equipped battle with army and trying to sneak in large chunks than small batches. The infiltrators are largely militants from Laskhar-e-Toiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Al-Badr, largely hailing from Pakistan's Punjab, PoK and North-West Frontier Province (NWFP) areas adjoining PoK (Pakistan occupied Kashmir). These groups have well-established links Taliban.

The Army, on its part, has strengthened its multi-tiered counter-infiltration grid along the LoC, with intelligence reports holding that '400 to 500' militants were waiting to sneak into JK.

This rise in infiltration bid can be attributed to growing instability in the neighbouring Pakistan and Afghanistan.
