SAD awards Rs 2 lakh to Jarnail Singh

New Delhi, Apr 7: Jarnail Singh, the Dainik Jagran journalist who threw shoe at Union Minister was let off free as no complaint was registered against him. Chidambaram, earlier said that he forgiven the journo.

"Let not the action of one emotional person hijack the entire press conference. I have answered his questions to the best of my ability," said the Union Home Minister.

Jarnail Singh is a senior Defence reporter with Hindi daily Dainik Jagran. He asked Chidambaram a question regarding the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and CBI giving clean chit to Jagdish Tytler. But Chidambaram apparently refused to answer and moved to next question. Upset over this Singh hurled shoe on the Union Home Minister.

When asked about the issue an an unapologetic Jarnail Singh said he will not apologise for his action, though his manner of protest might have been wrong.

Sikh political party Shiromani Akali Dal, praising Jarnail Singh announced a cash reward of Rs 200,000 for his 'courage and bravery' in hurling a shoe against Chidambaram. "Decisions are not taken by throwing shoes but this incident has showed our pain and suffering. Bhagat Singh had also thrown a bomb in the assembly. We have thus announced a reward of Rs 200,000 for his courage and bravery," Avtar Singh Hit, national general secretary of Shiromani Akali Dal, said.

However Dainik Jargan management is planning to take strict action against Singh, for his misbehaviour.
