Virginia, Apr 7: Sallie Mae, America's biggest student loan provider is planning to shift around 2,000 jobs from offshore facilities in India to US cities like Newark in New Jersey.

This reverse offshoring move will be completed in about 18 months. Albert Lord, Sallie Mae CEO said, "The current economic environment has caused our communities to struggle with job losses. They need jobs, and we will put 2,000 of them into US facilities as soon as we possibly can."

Sallie Mae's offshore operations include loan originations, servicing and collections, including both applications processing and call centres in Pune, Bangalore and Philippines facilities. The firm manages about $180 billion in student loans for some 10 million students.

'Sallie Mae', has gone bankrupt like all 'Financial Shylocks' and they want US government cash and assistance that has resulted in this 'Stunt'. The benchmark of a healthy 'US' company would be to stay in India, because that makes sense and not doing such stunts. These 'Financial Shylocks' should die if the world economy is to revive. US government should never try to recover these 'Financial Shylocks' and should allow them to die the way 'Lehman Bros.' were allowed to go 'belly-up'. India need not worry on the exit of these 'Financial Shylocks' as they were really sucking our economic blood through their 'Subprime Loan' and now if Obama allows them inside US, they are going to destroy US economy. Good riddance for India....
