Pilibhit, Apr 2: A day after intelligence agencies alerted life threat to Varun Gandhi from Dawood's aide, the Centre has said that it will upgrade his security from X category to Z category.
Under Z category Varun will get 13 cops and an escort vehicle for all 24 hours instead of one PSO which he currently gets.
Earlier Varun had written a letter to Home Minister requesting for upgradation of his security citing threat to his life.
In his letter to Home Ministry, Varun wrote: "In light of the current controversy, I would like to request that there be a review of the threat perception to me and my security status be accordingly be upgraded. Given the volatile election atmosphere, I seek your urgent consideration in this regard. In view of the family history, I feel sure you will appreciate the gravity of the situation."
