Unseasonal rains damage crops in Haryana

Rohtak (Haryana), Apr 1 (ANI): Unseasonal rains and thundershowers during the week have damaged the wheat crop in Rohtak in Haryana.The wheat which was ready to be harvested has been damaged by the heavy showers causing substantial loss to the farmers.

The farmers are quite agitated with their loss after the rain destroyed majority of their standing crop.

"Rain has destroyed all our crops. We have suffered heavy losses due to this," said Shamsher, a farmer.

They now want the government to provide financial assistance to overcome their losses.

"We have suffered huge losses. The government should provide assistance to us as we will not be able to sell our crop now," said Dilbag, another farmer.

India's annual monsoon rains are crucial for a farm dependent economy.

The four-month monsoon is the main source of water for most farmers in India. However untimely rains create situations such as these.

India is basically an agriculture economy and about 600 million of the billion-plus population depends on agriculture for a living. By Dhirender Kumar (ANI)

Amarnath pilgrimage suspended for second day

Srinagar, June 12 : The Amarnath pilgrimage continued to remain suspended from both Baltal and Pahalgam routes for the second day today due to heavy snowfall and incessant rains at several places along the track to the holy cave shrine, leaving thousands of devotees stranded enroute, officials said.They said while 18 inches of snow was recorded at Mahagunas, six inches of snowfall was received at the holy cave shrine, making it extremely difficult for the pilgrims to undertake the holy journey.....
