London, Apr 1 (ANI): A home recording of Late American rock icon Jimi Hendrix has gone up for an online auction, and it is expected to fetch between 50,000 to 100,000 pounds.
The recording, taped by the singer in New York in 1968, is said to feature 14 tracks, including songs from the 1968 album Electric Ladyland, along with Hendrix singing and playing the guitar.The tape was later taken to Britain, though its co-owner Mark Sutherland has no idea how it got there.
"I don't know how the tapes got from New York to London, but they must have been important if he took them with him," the BBC quoted Sutherland as saying.
He, however, did reveal how the tape came to be in his possession.
According to Sutherland, Hendrix had been living above a photography studio in central London when his neighbour Carl Niekirk, who worked at the studio, got disturbed by the people coming and going."Carl kept getting disturbed by people, and said 'a favour for a favour'... and Jimi gave him two tapes," he said.
Niekirk then sold one of the tapes "for a nominal fee" to Sutherland after meeting him at a pub a few years ago, but he then landed at the centre of a legal dispute as the Hendrix estate tried to claim it back.
It is only now that Sutherland has been able to sell the tape, and memorabilia auctioneer the Fame Bureau will auction it off on April 28. (ANI)
