Air Deccan's Capt Gopinath to contest LS polls

Bangalore, Mar 26: Low-cost carrier Air Deccan founder Capt G R Gopinath would contest the Lok Sabha elections either from Bangalore South or Bangalore Central constituencies as an independent candidate.

"I think people are tired of partisan politics in this country. That is why I have decided not to be associated with any political groupings. There's a need for more educated and well meaning people in politics," he said. "India is changing and people want to be part of political landscape rather than being outsiders and feeling frustrated about what is happening around us," Capt Gopinath added.Capt Gopinath was the pioneer to start the first Low Cost, no frills airline of India. He launched it on 25 Augt 2003. Air Deccan revolutionized air travel in India.

With a vision to connect hitherto unconnected parts of India, Air Deccan today connects many remote parts of the country where no other airline had operated. The airline is operating close to 236 flights a day connecting 55 destinations. As part of its expansion plans, the airline has signed for 60 brand new Airbus and 32 ATRs.
