IPL: Chidambaram hits back at BCCI

P Chidambaram
New Delhi, Mar 23: Just a day after the Indian Premier League (IPL) moved out of India, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said "BCCI's remarks that the govt pushed IPL 2 outside India is completely unwarranted".

He hit back at the Cricket board saying the final say on staging of IPL rested with the State govts.

He said, "As of today only three states and one union territory -- Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Punjab and Chandigarh, have given their comment in writing. Other states have not yet communicated. Meanwhile, BCCI and IPL took a decision to hold the matches outside India.

He also stated that there was no shame by not holding the second edition of IPL in India. Here he was referring to Narendra Modi who accused Central govt's inability to host the tournament in the country and called it a 'national shame'

Chidambaram also slammed BJP General Secretary Arun Jaitley, who had said that the decision to move the IPL outside India sends a negative message to the world that we are unable to hold a domestic sporting tournament.
