LS polls: RJD-LJP seals deal in Bihar

New Delhi, Mar 17: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) reached a seat-sharing alliance in Bihar on Tuesday, Mar 17. In a joint press conference RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and LJP supremo Ramvilas Paswan announced that RJD will contest 25 seats and LJP will contest 12 out of the 40 seats. Congress party which has sought more than 10 seats got only 3 seats in Bihar.

"We're fighting to form a secular government," Lalu told media. "We're with the UPA and will remain with the UPA," he added. RJD and LJP have also decided to contest together in Jharkhand. Reports suggest that the deal marks a major concession from Lalu's side. In 2004 elections, LJP contested in 8 Lok Sabha seats loosing half of them.
