LS Polls: Sanju to seek Vajypayee's blessings

Sanjay Dutt
Lucknow, Mar 16: As a surprise element, Bollywood star and Samajwadi Party candidate for Lok Sabha polls from Lucknow Sanjay Dutt said that he respects former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee a lot and will seek his blessings before the elections.

"I respect him (Vajpayee) same as my father (Sunil Dutt) used to, and I will definitely seek his blessings (before the elections)," Dutt told reporters on Sunday, Mar 15 evening at the party office in Lucknow.

Vajpayee had represented Lucknow seat for five successive terms. He will not be contesting this time around due to poor health.

However, Dutt's nomination hinges on the Election Commission's decision, since he has been convicted to a jail term of six years in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case.

On Sunday, Mar 15, Dutt delivered his first political speech and promised to work for the betterment of the city.

Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh, who was also present on the occasion said "If Lalji Tandon (Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate from Lucknow) is having Atal Behari Vajpayee's wooden sandals and his sister Mayawati's (Bahujan Samaj Party Chief and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister) blessings, our Sanjay has Gandhigiri."
