IPL security is not our concern: EC

N Gopalswami
New Delhi, Mar 16: It's tough time for IPL. After various state govts denied security arrangements to Indian Premier League (IPL) till the elections are over in their respective states, Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalswami also said that he needs more security forces to conduct Lok Sabha polls.

He opined that EC is not concerned about IPL. "As compared to 2004, the availability is less but at the same time the deployment in the field is more as compared to 2004. After we have taken review at some places we think additional force might be required," Gopalaswami said in new Delhi.

However, confusion and chaos over IPL dates is not yet decided.

Union Home Ministry has written to the Deccan Chargers saying the Andhra Pradesh Police can provide security for IPL only from April 26, which is three days after the Lok Sabha elections in the state get over on April 23.

Even Karnataka govt has denied any security arrangements to IPL till May 4. With the Election Commissioner's statement, IPL organisers will have to come up with a new schedule.
