Menon says Pakistan should take credible steps to dismantle terror infrastructure

Washington, Mar 12 (ANI): Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon today said that Pakistan should take credible steps to dismantle terror infrastructure there.

Discussing the progress in the probe into Mumbai attacks with US diplomats and officials here, Menon said that Pakistan needs to do more to bring the perpetrators of the Mumbai terror attacks to justice.

Wrapping up his four-day visit to US, Menon said Pakistan has started an investigation and has taken some actions, and added that India would give more material to Pakistan on the attacks.

"It's a positive development. But there is much more to go. We hope that they would continue to do the right thing," he added.

He also discussed counter-terrorism in considerable detail with US officials.

On the current conflict in Sri Lanka, Menon said devolution of powers to Tamil-dominated areas in Sri Lanka is really the way to address the decades-old ethnic conflict in the island nation.

"India and the US feel that civilians caught in the war should be safely moved to Government-controlled areas," Menon added.

This was Menon's first high-level visit to Washington after Obama became US President.

India has been urging the international community to put pressure on Islamabad to bring the perpetrators and attackers of the November 2008 Mumbai carnage that claimed 179 lives to justice. It is also insisting that Pakistan must not allow terrorist activity to flower from its soil. (ANI)
