No church, temple or masjid in public sites: HC

Karnataka HC
Bangalore, Mar 7: The Karnataka High Court (HC) on Friday, Mar 6 has come down heavily upon encroachment of public places in the name of worship.

The High Court announced that no church, temple or masjid should exist in public sites. It has asked the State government to come out with a uniform stand within two weeks regarding this.

HC asked the govt to give the action plan taken by State govt about the places of worship encroaching upon civic amenity sites and other public properties.

HC in its statement said, if a poor man encroaches upon one cent of land, you make it a big issue. But in the name of god if it is encroached, you take it as blessings. As far as we are concerned, rule of law should prevail. You have to evict those people by giving notices in accordance with law, even issue notice to God if required. A principle of natural justice applies to God also. Don"t favour anybody, HC added.

HC was hearing a Public Interest Litigation case connected to encroachment of Lakshmana Rau Park in Okalipuram area.

Encroachment of BBMP land with BBMP blessing and forged documents!! I am from Bismillah Nagar, off Bannerghatta Road, near Sagar Automobiles / Sagar Hospital, near Tavarakkere Park. There is a stretch of land adjoining (almost 3 acres) Tavarakkare Park, belonging to the BBMP. If the original documents are checked in earnest, you will find it belonging to BBMP. Off late there are many claimants to this land, which is otherwise being used as playground, bus parking and junk yard. Since yesterday one Laxman (a land grabber in the locality) has marked a piece of the ground and put a board claiming injunction from civil court. Everyone in the locality know what type of person he is and the muscle power he has. He has done similarly in parts near Bannerghatta Road. He had earlier encroached a triangular shaped property of Corporation behind Christ School and sold to a set of Muslims in the locality with injunction from court. There are also rumours that a group (two Muslims and two Hindus) from Marathahalli are claiming ownership for the entire 3.5 acres If BBMP does not take steps, it is going to lose 3.5 acres of prime land, which can be used as a park or play ground or a good parking lot for space choked Bangalore.
