Solar energy brightens up lives of Uttar Pradesh's villagers

Faizabad (UP) Mar 6 (ANI): Solar energy brightens up the lives of the villagers of Bakoli village of Faizabad district in Uttar Pradesh.

The Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Yojana has been commissioned in the Bakoli village, as the area has made do without electricity at all for ages.

"Our village has no electricity at all. Central Government has installed a solar energy plant in our area through which around 50-60 families are getting benefit," said Amjad Ali, Village Head, Bakoli.

The village has a population of about 150. Around 50 to 60 families from this village have placed the solar plates on the terrace of their houses to tap solar energy for charging the batteries for the lights that helps the children to study and other household works during the evening.

"Earlier our teacher taught us with the help of oil lamps, but after the central Government provided us with the solar energy, studying has become easier for us," said Anupam, a student.

Renewable energy sources contribute about five percent of India's electricity. Solar energy with an appropriate technology promises to be one of the most replenishing, pollution free and inexhaustible sources of energy.

Now, 'green' fridge that runs on solar power

Sydney, Jan 13 (ANI): Australian researchers have developed a device that allows household fridges to run easily on solar or wind power.Such an invention would lead to a drastic reduction in reduce greenhouse gas emission and make renewable energy more useable as well.The fridges are capable to switch themselves on and off regularly as they keep their temperature between 2 and 4 degrees Celsius.A small box developed by the team led by engineer Sam West connects.....
