New schedule for IPL soon: Lalit Modi

Mumbai, Mar 6: Lalit Modi, the chairman of Indian Premier League (IPL) said that IPL is very much on and that the board is working on a revised schedule. "We want to assure all our fans and sponsors that the IPL is on. There are lot of speculations. There is no question of IPL moving to any other country," Modi said to mediapersons at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday, Mar 6.Next week IPL board will come up with a new security plan. However Modi made it very clear that there won't be any matches on May 16, the day of counting votes. He also added that there won't be any matches on the day of polls. Lalit Modi also thanked Union Home Minister P Chidambaram who assured to provide necessary security for IPL matches if schedules are re-worked to ensure that they do not overlap with the election dates.

Earlier the state governments have expressed their inability in providing security for IPL, which was scheduled on same dates when states go to polls.

May calls for inclusion of IPL in international calendar

''Cricket needs to go down a path to . . . create a window for the IPL. That will act as a reasonable safeguard from early retirements, but it won't stop all,'' May said. ''It's common sense, otherwise international.....
