Plastic-free election campaigns this year!

Election Campaign
New Delhi, Mar 5: Election campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls will be eco-friendly as Election Commission have urged the political parties on Thursday, Mar 5 to avoid the use of plastics to prepare posters, banners and other election material. Many parties will also be adopting this.

Noted animal rights activist and environmentalist Maneka Gandhi, an MP, has supported the commission's guidelines to ban the use of animal symbols as well.

"I agree with it completely. And they (Election Commission) should also stop parties and candidates from using animal symbols," Maneka Gandhi, who used to be India's environment minister, told.

Congress spokesman Shakeel Ahmed was of the opinion that even though parties would be shelling more money eco-friendly banners and posters, it is a commendable decision to adopt.

The Commission's directive comes at a time when various state governments have banned the use of plastic bags.
