Bangla mutiny: Funeral held for officers killed

Dhaka, Mar 2: A respectful state funeral was offered for dozens of Bangladesh army officers who were killed in mutiny last week in Dhaka on Monday, Mar 2.

Thousands of mourners gathered to salute the departing souls. Scores of people said prayers for their dead friends as the coffins draped in national and army flags were brought to Dhaka's military stadium.

Commander-in-chief, Major General Sakil Ahmed and his wife were also murdered by rebellion Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) paramilitary troops.

BDR troops killed at least 80 people in the mutiny. Kith and kins of the dead officers reached Dhaka to attend the funeral service.

The paramilitary troops usually guard the borders but also help army and police on other security issues. It is learnt that BDR troops mutinied over pay and other conditions.

Pak denies hand in Bangladesh mutiny

Islamabad, Mar 3: Pakistan has refuted reports about its alleged involvement in the last week's mutiny in Bangladesh in which over 77 Bangladeshi army officers were murdered by the Bangladesh rifles personnel (BDR).Talking to reporters here, Pak Foreign Office spokesperson, Abdul Basit termed the allegations about Pakistan's involvement in the incident as 'baseless'."These reports are obviously baseless and malafide," The Daily Times quoted Basit, as saying.Basit said Pakistan and Bangladesh shared a close and co-operative relationship......
