Srinagar situation continues to be tense

Srinagar, Feb 27 (ANI): A curfew-like situation prevailed in Srinagar over the killing of two Muslim youth, allegedly by the army.

The streets wore a deserted look in Srinagar. The shops, business establishments and other offices were closed.

Security personnel were on guard in almost every part of the city.

Residents said that they had literally got fed up with the frequent shutdowns and curfews announced on one pretext or the other.

As vehicles did not ply on road, residents had to bear the brunt.

"I have come here to fill a form. Vehicles are not plying on the street. We are facing a lot of problems. I have to walk down now," said Shabir, another resident.

Over the last few days, the region has been rocked by violent protests following the death of Shabir Ahmad Sheikh, cousin of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman Yasin Malik.

Authorities have ordered a probe into the deaths, which took place on February 21 evening after soldiers allegedly fired at a vehicle.

Meanwhile, Indian army said they are investigating the shooting incident in which three villagers were also wounded. (ANI)
