Slumdog kids watch movie in Mumbai

Mumbai, Feb 27 (ANI): A special screening was held for slum kids who were part of cast in the Oscar winning film 'Slumdog Millionaire'.

Fifteen to twenty of these kids from Dharavi, were treated to a special screening of 'Slumdog Millionaire' here last evening. An initiative by a local radio station, the experience left the kids exhilarated.

Shoaib, one of the slum kids in the film said, the attraction of appearing on big screen motivated them to work in the film.

"It felt good that we worked in the movie. Our parents used to send us happily for the shoot. We were really excited that we would come on TV and theatre. We would become actors. We wanted to be like Azhar," said Shoaib.

While their co-actors Rubina and Azhar have become household names, these kids were quite excited to recognize themselves on screen. It gave them each a dream to make big one day.

'Slumdog Millionaire' tells the story of a young man looking for love and competing for money on the Indian version of the television game show 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire'. It is based on a story Q and A written by Indian diplomat Vikas Swaroop, which scooped up eight Oscars, including best motion picture.

The film also bagged awards for best adapted screenplay, sound mixing, cinematography and film editing. (ANI)
