Security focus on Olympics can be exploited by terrorists to attack elsewhere in UK

London, Feb 27 (ANI): The huge security focus on the London Olympics in 2012 could be exploited by terrorists to plot an attack elsewhere in the United Kingdom.

Up to 10,000 police officers will be drafted in to guard the Games, but there will be no additional recruits, raising questions about the reduction of cops elsewhere, The Sun reported.

Home Secretary Jacqui Smith has been warned not to allow the rest of the country to be exposed.

"We are acutely aware that, particularly with terrorism, we could harden defence on the Olympics and displace an attack on to another part of the UK.

That is not an unfamiliar event anywhere in the world," a senior Home Office source said.

Ministers were told that general crime might increase elsewhere.

But they vowed to stick to the 600million pounds budget set for security at the East London Olympic zone, said to be the biggest peacetime operation. (ANI)
