6 pc hike in DA to govt employees: Chidambaram

New Delhi, Feb 26: The government of India announced a hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) by 6 per cent as a major election sop to woo the central government employees. P Chidambaram, the Union Home Minister said that the Cabinet decided to give the DA from Jan 2009.The employees will now get 22 pc DA from Jan 2009 compared to the earlier 16 pc implemented after the sixth pay commission. But the burden on the exchequer will now come over to Rs 3,534 crore.

Govt staff to get 5 pc extra in dearness allowance

New Delhi, Sep 8: The government on Thursday, Sep 10, announced 5 pc increase in the dearness allowance for its employees and pensioners with effect from Jul 1, 2008.The decision was taken at a meeting of the union cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, I& B Minister Ambika Soni told reporters here after the meeting.Dearness allowance will now be 27.77 percent of the basic pay of government officials and pensioners."The hike will cost the government.....
