Bihar Govt rejects CBI probe demand in Koshi breach

Patna, Feb. 25 (ANI): The Bihar Government has rejected Opposition's demand for a CBI investigation into Koshi breach. The Kosi River breach embankment at Kusaha in Nepal had caused massive floods in five districts of the state.

"We are not in a position to take punitive action against officials at this stage," state Water Resource Minister Vijendra Prasad Yadav said, adding that the government had already instituted a judicial probe to find out whether the breach was caused due to the failure of any individual or institution.

The opposition member Kishore Kumar Munna, who had brought up the question in the state assembly, insisted that only a CBI inquiry would bring the truth out, and those who neglected their duty could be punished.

When Yadav said that CBI probe was not required, and suggested to the member to wait for action till the recommendations of the judicial commission were received by the state government, Munna and MLAs from Left parties gathered into the well of the house to mark their protest.

Soon, the members of the main opposition party RJD, Congress and LJP, who had also been pressing for a CBI probe into the matter, joined them.

Later, the agitated MLAs staged a walkout from the assembly. (ANI)
