Shivarathri: Gangajal distributed in K'taka
Bangalore, Feb 23: Karnataka received 50,000 litres of Gangajal (holy water) from River Ganga to be distributed to the Shiva temples on the occasion of Mahashivarthri in the state on Monday, Feb 23.

Two tankers carrying 50,000 litres of Gangajal, collected from Laksman Joola near Rishikesh reached the State capital, Bangalore, prior to the Maha Shivaratri on Sunday, Feb 22. Govt has also selected five major Shiva temples in each Taluk (sub division of a District) where ten litres of Gangajal has been dispatched for performing Hindu rituals and is being distributed among the devotees.The priests of all Shiva temples belonging to the 'Muzrai' (Religious endowment) Department are doing special poojas in the temples and are distributing the holy

water to devotees who are thronging Shiva temples from the morning. The Department had distributed three lakh 'laddus' on the 'Vaikunta Ekadashi' Day recently.The Ganga has a special place in Indian culture. Gangajal, it is said, is used for all Hindu religious ceremonies. The devotees of Lord Shiva bring Gangajal from Haridwar.

Cauvery: Complete shutdown of K'taka on Feb 12

Bangalore, Feb 10: Karnataka will be completely shutdown on Feb 12 from 6 am to 6pm to support statewide bandh called by Kannada organisations against the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal verdict.
