London, Feb.21 (ANI): Stunned cricket bosses last night washed their hands of Texan billionaire Sir Allen Stanford and scrapped a series of Lord's matches.
The move came 24 hours after US authorities accused the tycoon of a 6.5 billion pound fraud.
David Collier, chief executive of the England and Wales Cricket Board, announced it was to "terminate all agreements" with the Texan Twenty20 billionaire. England had signed a 70 million pound sponsorship deal with Stanford, 58.
According to the Sun, the bosses had agreed to four more million-pound-a-man matches in the Caribbean after last year's the West Indies All Stars won the opener.
Stanford was also pumping about 18 million pounds into three annual matches at the north London cricket HQ, starting in May.
According to latest reports, the FBI wants to quiz Stanford over alleged money-laundering links to Mexican drug chiefs after he handed himself in on Thursday in Virginia.
Papers served to him claim he owned a 70 million pound fleet of planes, a Caribbean island and lived in a castle. But US authorities have started stripping away his assets.
Stanford yesterday held talks in Washington with one of America's top criminal defence lawyers, Brendan Sullivan, who charges 750 pounds an hour for consultation. (ANI)
