Army fully prepared to meet any threat: Vice-Chief

New Delhi, Feb 21 (ANI): The Vice Chief of the Army Staff, Lieutenant General Noble Thamburaj on Saturday said the Army is fully prepared to meet any threat from low-intensity conflicts to high-level operations by organizations like the Taliban.

"Taliban's influence is mainly confined to West Pakistan and Afghanistan, and there is no direct threat to India. If any eventuality arises in future, the Indian Army will give a befitting reply," Lt. Gen. Thamburaj told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.

He also said the Army is fully prepared to face any threat from the western flank.

"Training is on, equipment is in place and the leadership is determined to face any challenge emanating from the western flank," the Vice Chief of the Army said.

He also said that infiltration in Jammu and Kashmir has come down in the last few years.

He, however, added that there is no room for complacency and additional troops have been deployed for counter-insurgency operations.

The Vice Army Chief also added that environment in the state has undergone a major change. In the recent Assembly elections people, voted in large numbers and boycotted the separatist calls.

He said people in Jammu and Kashmir want peace and development and solution to their daily problems. (ANI)

SL personnels arrival leads to tension at airport

Chennai, Dec 22: Tension prevailed at Anna international airport here early this morning when 18 Sri Lankan army personnel arrived by a Sahara Airlines flight from Colombo en route Mumbai. Official sources said some people started raising slogans against the Lankan army, under the impression that the army personnel from the island nation had come here for training. However, enquiries with police revealed that the army personnel, led by Liya Nayaga, were experts.....
