Suicide blast at a funeral precession kills 14 in Dera Ismail Khan

Dera Ismail Khan, Feb 20 (ANI): Fourteen people were killed and several others were injured when a blast occurred in a funeral procession in northwestern Pakistani city of Dera Ismail Khan on Friday.

According to reports, a suicide blast occurred near imam bargah Kotli Imam Hussain when hundreds of people were attending the funeral procession of a person Sher Zaman, who was shot dead in a target-killing incident on Thursday.

The injured were shifted to district headquarter hospital. Situation remained tense in the city and all markets have been closed after the blast, The News reported.

Shortly after the attack, the people who were part of the funeral procession went on rampage, damaging a police check post and pelting stones at cars on the roads. They also targeted government offices and security forces.

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has strongly condemned the explosion. (ANI)

Colombo, Dec 29: Two people were wounded in a blast in a van on the outskirts of the Sri Lankan capital today, the military said. ''There was a van parked there, there was an explosion, we are investigating what actually happened,'' Brigadier Prasad Samarasinghe told Reuters. The incident took place in Wattala, 10 km north of Colombo, he said. The van driver was among the two injured. Suicide bombings, mine attacks and clashes.....

NATO soldier killed in southern Afghanistan

Kabul, Dec 28: A NATO soldier was killed and three injured, one seriously, after a blast caused their vehicle to crash during a reconnaissance mission in southern Afghanistan, the alliance said today. It did not give the nationalities of the soldiers, nor more details of yesterday's incident in Helmand province, a Taliban stronghold. NATO said in a statement it was investigating.
