Pak-Taliban truce worries India: Antony
New Delhi, Feb 20: Post 26/11 attacks India's security system is under scanner, now truce between Pakistan and Taliban has added to India's 'worries' over security scenario in the region, expressed Defence Minister A K Antony on Friday, Feb 20.

Answering a query on ceasefire between Pak troops and Taliban militants in the Swat rally, Antony said : "From 26/11 onwards, we are very much concerned about the security scenario. This new development, in a way, adds to our worries."

Govt's stand on the issued was already cleared by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Antony said."On behalf of the government, External Affairs Minister has already reacted. What he has said is the posture of the government," he said on the sidelines of an award ceremony for best marching contingents at this year's Republic Day parade.

Pranab Mukherjee on Feb 17 had opined that Taliban is danger to humanity and civilisation. It can be recalled here that Pak govt and the Taliban in the Swat valley had reached a peace treaty with Taliban-linked group for enforcing Shariah law in an attempt to restore peace in the region.

Electronic media must play a greater role: Antony

New Delhi, June 20: Defence Minister A K Antony today said the electronic media had emerged as the most powerful communication tool in the country, and asked private television channels to play a ''greater'' role in the emerging socio-economic scenario.He was inaugurating the National Bureau and the studio of "Jaihind TV," a Malayalam channel sponsored by the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), at the YWCA complex here.Mr Antony said there were still space for more new channels......
