Srinagar, Feb 11 (ANI): The two-day state employees strike in Jammu and Kashmir continues on Wednesday with all the government offices and public sector undertakings remaining shut across the state.

The strike has been called by the All Jammu and Kashmir Employees Joint Action Committee to demand implementation of the sixth pay panel report and enhancement of the retirement age 58 years to 60 years.

The other demands of the employees include regularisation of temporary workers, formation of a transparent transfer policy and revival of mediclaim insurance policy.

It is likely that the employees would intensify their protests if the authorities fail to concede to their demands.

However, Finance, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Abdul Rahim Rather has claimed that the government has agreed in principal to implement the pay panel recommendations.

Rather said that the matter would be discussed with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who also holds the charge of finance portfolio.

However, since Prime Minister was ill, the matter could not be persuaded further, he said.

Rather has also expressed his regret on the confrontational attitude of employees.

Earlier on January 24, the state employees had observed a one-day strike on the same demands. (ANI)
