Baluch militant outfit behind UN official's abduction

Islamabad, Feb.8 (ANI): A relatively unheard of militant outfit, the Baluchistan Liberation United Front (BLUF), has taken responsibility for the kidnapping of the head of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), John Solecki.

According to the Dawn, the terrorist group said they had abducted the UN official to make the United Nations pay attention to the 'plight' of Baluchi people.

The group also warned of dire consequences if their demands were not met.

"We have three demands, and if our demands are not met, then John Solecki will lose his life," Sahak Baluch, a man who claimed to be the spokesperson of BLUF, said.

Solecki was abducted from Quetta on Monday (February 2) following an ambush in which his driver was killed.

The group which has taken the responsibility of kidnapping has not been heard of earlier, but its name is similar to the well known militant group -Baluchistan Liberation Front.

Separatists have been demanding greater economic and political rights for the Baluch people for a long time now, who believe that their rich oil and gas and mineral resources are being exploited. (ANI)
