25 hijacked Indian sailors return home safe

Mumbai, Jan 30: Twenty Five Indian sailors on the Liberian chemical tanker MT Biscaglia that was hijacked by somali pirates for nearly two months returned home on Friday, Jan 30.

There were 25 Indians, 3 Bangladeshis and 2 Britons and 1 Irish sailors on board who are all set free. The British and Irish sailor tried escaping by jumping into the sea, but were later rescued.

However, there were no reports of whether any ransom was paid by the American owners of the ship.

"We are back safe and are happy that our company made efforts to ensure our freedom," a sailor said after arriving at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport in Mumbai from Muscat.

The 25 crew members will be leaving to their respective homes later in the day.

The chemical tanker was carrying 16,282 tonnes of cargo and was travelling between Indonesia and Europe.

Militants have 26 camps in Bangladesh: Sarkar
