Olympians protest falling on deaf ears

Vijender Singh, Sushil Kumar -Indian Olympians
New Delhi, Jan 28: Boxer Vijender Singh, Wrestler Sushil Kumar would have never thought that they will be neglected like this. Being hurt by not being awarded Padma Shree the Olympians protested. But their protest is falling on deaf ears. Even India's Sports Minister is not listening to it.

The Olympians embarassed the Union Sports Minister M S Gill by questioning the process adopted in deciding the Padma awardees for this year. But the Minister is maintaining stone silence on the issue.

Vijender and Sushil Kumar were raised to the heights of glory after they won individual bronze medal in the Beijing Olympics 2008. But after four months they were forgotten heros and so were their unique achievements as the government decided to leave out the two icons from the list of this year's Padma awardees.

Sources say that the government's negligence have also infuriated another Indian hero, Abhinav Bindra, the golden boy of India. He won the first gold medal for India in shooting in Beijing Olympics.
