90 percent of failed asylum seekers in UK are never deported

London, Jan.23 (ANI): Over 90 percent of failed asylum seekers are not deported from Britain, shock new figures have revealed.

The Daily Star quoted immigration experts as warning last night that a swarm of bogus illegals are "queuing up in Calais" to come over and take advantage.

The Government admitted the backlog of new cases in the asylum system doubled from 4,200 in 2007 to 8,700 last year. That is in addition to the 360,000 old cases that still have to be processed.

The damning report from the National Audit Office also revealed it can cost taxpayers 60,000 pounds to deport just one family of illegals.

It also said there was no way of tracking people granted asylum so they could be returned if their home nation becomes safe.

And the old backlog of asylum cases cost the taxpayer 600 million pounds last year alone.

Sir Andrew Green, chairman of independent Migrationwatch, said: "This is a shameful performance for the expenditure of hundreds of millions of pounds. With less than one in 10 failed asylum seekers being removed, it is no surprise that asylum seekers, many of them bogus, are queuing up in Calais. The Government must make far greater efforts to remove people who stay on illegally in Britain if the immigration system as a whole is to have any credibility at all."

At the current rate of processing, it will take until 2015 to kick out all the illegals or to get those granted asylum working and paying taxes. (ANI)
