Washington, Jan 22: By a vote of 94-2 Hillary Clinton was confirmed as the new US Secretary of State by the Senate on Thursday, Jan 22. Her confirmation was delayed after questions about her husband former US President Bill Clinton's foundation sidetracked her nomination.

Majority of the Senators was of the opinion that Hillary who traveled and met with foreign dignitaries around the world during her time as First Lady, is uniquely qualified for the job. The two Senators who voted against her was David Vitter and Jim DeMint.

Soon after her swear-in ceremony Hillary resigned from the Senate. Robert Gibbs, President Obama's press secretary said Hillary, as the new Secretary of State would attend the White House meeting on Iraq.

Six other Cabinet appointees were confirmed on Obama's Inauguration Day. Hillary's confirmation was delayed until Wednesday, Jan 21 over objections from Senator of Texas John Cornyn (Republic). He raised concern about the foreign donations made to former President Bill Clinton's foundation.

Cornyn later spoke to Hillary and said that the former first lady agreed to more regular disclosure of her husband's foundation donations, provided the requirements does not only apply to the Clintons.
