Nationwide alert for Prabhakaran in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, Jan 22: Reports suggest that the Malaysian police are on lookout for elusive Tamil Tiger leader Vellupillai Prabhakaran who may have fled Sri Lanka as LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) is losing more of its territory day by day. Police sources said that security is tightened at the security checkpoints at airports and along the coast.

Musa Hassan, Inspector-General of Police said, "We are not taking any chances with him, so we will be constantly monitoring." Also that a nationwide alert was announced on Thursday, Jan 22 for Prabhakaran, whose group is listed as a terrorist organisation in India, United States, Australia and the European Union.

He also added that the local intelligence network is used to ascertain if Prabhakaran already reached Malaysia. Sri Lanka Army Chief Sarath Fonseka had earlier said that Prabhakaran may have fled Sri Lanka.
