Bharti Airtel Q3 net up at 1,976 crore

Mumbai, Jan 22: Bharti Airtel announced its net profit for the third quarter ended Dec 31. SunilMittal led Airtel said its net profit rose by 38.34 per cent to Rs 1,976 .41 crore. In the last fiscal, company had a net profit of Rs 1,428.56 crore for the same quarter, said Airtel in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange. The total income of the company rose to Rs 9,667.37 crore, up 39.90 per cent against Rs 6,950.14 crore for the corresponding period a year ago.

Sunil Bharti Mittal, the Bharti Airtel Limited Chairman and Managing Director said, "Bharti Airtel continues to lead the telecom growth story adding customer and revenue market share despite intense competition." He added that company's strategy of extensive roll out ahead of competition, specially in new villages, has resulted in rich dividends.

The company posted a net profit of Rs 5,811.22 crore, up 29.23 per cent for the nine-month ended Dec 31 against Rs 4,496.53 crore for the same period in 2007.

Talking to mediapersons after launching Life Time prepaid plan of Rs 495 here today, Bharti Airtel Ltd Executive Director Jayant Khosla said the circle had tremendous opportunities and one of the fastest growing markets with a customer base of 1.5 million. Mr Khosla said.....
