Apple Inc posts record $ 10 bn revenue

Washington, Jan 22: For the first time in history IT giant Apple crossed $10 billion mark revenue for the quarter ended Dec with its leading products, iPod and iPhone posting robust sales. Company in a statement said that its revenue rose to $10.17 billion in the quarter under review as to the $9.61 billion in the corresponding year ago period. The company's net income also increased by 1.89 per cent to record $1.61 billion in the first quarter of fiscal 2009, from $1.58 billion in the year-ago period.

Steve Jobs said, "Even in these economically challenging times, we are incredibly pleased to report our best quarterly revenue and earnings in Apple history surpassing $10 billion in quarterly revenue for the first time ever."

Apple sold a record number of iPods at 22.72 million during the quarter. It also posted 88 pc jump in iPhone sales to 4.36 million units from the same period last fiscal.

The third quarter revenue of Apple were also boosted by strong sales of Macintosh Computer's, growing 9 pc in the first quarter. The statement added that the company's international sales accounted for 46 pc of the quarter's revenue.

Videocon submits EoI for Motorola handset unit

{image-videocon logo1_05042008.jpg news.oneindia.in}New Delhi, Apr 5: Consumer electronics giant Videocon Industries today said it has filed an expression of interest (EoI) for Motorola Inc's handset business, saying the whole acquisition process will take time on account of clearance from the regulatory body. ''We have submitted the EoI for the Motorola's handset business, and that will take some time because of regulatory clearance in the United States,'' Videocon Chairman and Managing Director V N Dhoot told reporters here on the sidelines of releasing.....
