Kabul, Jan 22 (ANI): Afghanistan has assured India of improving levels of cooperation in areas of security and economic related activities.
External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who is on a two-day visit of Afghanistan met his Afghanistan counterpart Rangin Dadfar Spanta here on Wednesday and discussed a wide range of bilateral, regional and global issues.
Speaking to reporters, Spanta said Afghanistan would increase levels of information exchange and cooperation with India.
"We have a very little in cooperation in security, information exchange and we will increase that," he said.
It was also essential to bring to an end entities using terrorism as an instrument of foreign policy.
"Afghanistan believes that in our region there are some entities that are still using terrorism as a tool for foreign policy. We have to give that an end. We believe at the same time that the ... Government of Pakistan is determined for cooperation against terrorism," he added.
Without naming any particular nation, he mentioned that his country has been a victim of terrorism with the same source that attacked Mumbai.
"Afghanistan is the victim of the same terrorists with the same sources. Now we discussed the issue, we discussed the problem how can we deal with this problem, and how we can increase understanding, the regional cooperation against terrorism," he said.
Mukherjee also called on Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai at the Presidential Palace.
The visit of External Affairs Minister comes a week after Karzai visited New Delhi and discussed bilateral cooperation in various areas.
Both countries had signed a joint declaration to combat terrorism in the region. India is the sixth largest donor for reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan and has funded projects worth more than six thousand rupees in various sectors, including road, power, health and educational services.(ANI)
