Punjab CM's son sworn-in as Deputy CM

Punjab CM's son sworn-in as his Deputy
Chandigarh, Jan 21:Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal's son Sukhbir was sworn-in as Deputy Chief Minister on Wednesday, Jan 21. Sukhbir post for deputy chief minister was strongly opposed by Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) coalition partner BJP.

The two top posts in the state's coalition govt will go to same family as Sukhbir sworn-in.
Since the Badal ministry already has 18 members, including the Chief Minister. The maximum Punjab can have due to constitutional limit imposed vis-a-vis the state assembly strength (117 members). Sukhbir's brother-in-law Bikramjit Singh Majithia resigned as Information and Public Relations Minister to pave the way for the SAD President.

Among the 13 cabinet miniters four members are from Badal's family with the remaining five from coalition BJP. SAD is dependent on BJP as it could win only 49 seats in assembly elections, while BJP had won a record 19 assembly seats in 2007 elections.
