PM undergoes angiography at AIIMS

New Delhi, Jan 21: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh underwent angiography as part of a series of heart-related tests at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Wednesday, Jan 21. According to AIIMS sources, some blockages have been found in his heart. Doctors are contemplating the next course of action.

AIIMS Medical Superintendent Dr D K Sharma said that the Prime Minister had come for an overall medical checkup on Tuesday, which was conducted by a team of doctors from various disciplines. Singh, who had earlier undergone a by-pass surgery, had complained of some chest pain after which a decision to carry out the tests was taken.

Singh had cancelled his visit to Kolkata, scheduled for Jan 21, to attend the Asiatic Society's post-bicentennial silver jubilee celebrations and inaugurate the 150th foundation day of St Xavier''s College.

Washington, Mar 15: US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said she will visit the Middle East next week and spoke favorably of a Saudi peace plan, despite analysts' skepticism that it can work.There is growing interest in the Saudi plan drawn up at a 2002 Arab League summit in Beirut in which Arab nations offered Israel normal ties in return for full withdrawal from land it occupied in the 1967 Middle East war.Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has recently praised elements.....

Most Japanese want to end Iraq war support: Poll

Tokyo, Mar 15: More than two-thirds of Japanese want to end an air force mission backing up U.S.-led military activities in Iraq this summer, when the mandate for the mission expires, a newspaper poll said today.Sixty-nine percent of those polled said they wanted the troops pulled out, while 75 per cent said the war had been a mistake, the daily Asahi Shimbun said.Japan withdrew its 600 ground troops from southern Iraq last year after a non-combat reconstruction.....
