'No time-line for 3G spectrum auction yet'
New Delhi, Jan 19: Government sources said that 3G spectrum auction is yet to have a time line, even after postponing the auction twice. Auction of 3G spectrum will introduce high tech mobile service in India. Siddhartha Behura, Telecom Secretary said, "We don't have a time-line (the fresh date for 3G spectrum auction), the cabinet note for the process is being sent. I cannot comment on the time or the price for bidding."

Reports suggest that the government is looking at re-working on the current spectrum policy to ensure efficient management of the radio wave. The auction process was postponed due to Finance Ministry's plan to double the 3G reserve price of all India 3G license from Rs 2,020 to Rs 4,040 crore. But the Department of Telecommunication is of the view that the finance ministry suggestion had to refer the matter to the Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs for a wider view before deciding on the 3G spectrum price. The second 3G spectrum auction which was scheduled on Jan 30 is deferred now.
