Bangalore, Jan 14: Stop commenting and second guessing on Satyam Computers and leave it to new management to revive the company. This is the advice given by one of India's larest IT company, Infosys's mentor N R Narayana Murthy (NRN). He was speaking to the press persons on the sidelines of India's Technology leaders conference.
"There is no need to discuss on issues concerning the impact Satyam will have on the IT industry," said NRN. He added that Satyam now has a new Board of Directors (BoD) in Kiran Karnik, Deepak Parekh and C Achuthan and it is better to communicate with them. He said that the trio has a lot of experience and have handled major crisis.
NRN said, "We should give confidence to Satyam, its employees and leaders by distancing ourselves from making comments."
Now that the board has been appointed, "rest of us should stop second guessing. The trio has a lot of experience. They have handled major crisis. I would rather leave it at that," Murthy said. To a question what lessons IT industry could learn from the Satyam fiasco, he replied that the new BoD need a couple of days to assess the situation and come to conclusions. "The rest of us should stop meddling and giving opinions, he added.
He refued to reply to the query whether Infosys would show any interest if Satyam was up for sale.
Meanwhile the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi who was in Amethi said that those guilty of Satyam fraud should be punished. "On the one hand, the strength that we have in IT is a very deep strength. So with a long term view ... in a long term perspective, I am not too concerned about Satyam development. On the other hand there has been activities that are unlawful and they should be looked into and the guilty should be punished," said Rahul. He added that unlawful activities should be curbed.
He along with the British Secretary David Miliband, visited some villages in Amethi to give him a first-hand account of development activities being carried out in the area.
