3 days of oil strike created 105 cr losses

New Delhi, Jan 10: The three-day strike by officials of oil PSUs that created a shortage in petrol, diesel and lpg ended on Friday, Jan 9 evening. The losses incurred from this strike was Rs 105 crore. The shutting of LPG supplies made many hoteliers shut their hotels in Mumbai.

"Restaurants in Mumbai get their gas supply through pipelines. But 40 per cent of them had to pull down their shutters on Friday because of the lack of supply," former (Indian Hotels and Restaurants Association) president and adviser Chandrahas Shetty said.

Many groceries in various parts of the country were running out of stock. Many shop owners feared that the depleting stocks might rise the prices of basic commodities.

A similar situation prevailed in Bangalore, where autos and buses have been reduced due to shortage of fuel and LPG supplies. One of the commuter said, "Petrol was available in black, for which we need to pay tripple the amount of original price. Poor people cannot pay so much money and fill their petrol tanks."

Commuters have observed a shoratge in autos and buses. The few buses that are available are overcrowded.

After announcement of the strike being called off, the petrol pumps in the country have started the supply. There are long queues at the petrol bunks and police are controlling the crowd.
