Hyderabad IT senior executive slams comment from Infosys

Satyam
Hyderabad, Jan 9: A senior executive from a Hyderabad IT firm (name has not been disclosed), slammed the comments made by Infosys top official about hiring Satyam staff.

He even opined that large IT companies should work together to salvage the careers of competent professionals of Satyam.

What Infosys Top Officials said

Infosys Technologies HR, education & research and administration Director TV Mohandas Pai told Economic Times said, "We have asked our recruitment staff not to poach anybody from Satyam. The company is in the middle of a crisis and people will jump ship,"

Economic times story again says that, "A person familiar with the matter, who asked not to be named, said that Infosys would refrain from even hiring domain experts or project managers from Satyam. Infosys has even advised staff against entertaining calls from Satyam employees."

Reacting to this news item, senior executive said "This particular comment is most unfortunate and uncalled for. From what I know, Satyam's employees are thorough professionals and have an excellent reputation among their clients. The employees should not in any way be held accountable for the actions of the senior management."

He further said, "We are talking about a very real human tragedy, with more than 50,000 IT professionals' careers being on the line. This is not the time for grandstanding or making holier than thou statements, just to draw attention to oneself. Ideally the various large IT companies should work out a strategy whereby the competent professionals currently employed by Satyam can salvage their careers."

It is unfortunate that the said sr. executive decided to see this comment thru colored glasses. Why cant it be viewed as Infosys does not want to fish in troubled waters. That is predatory. Infosys by its act of not poaching the employees of Satyam and its clients, is acting in a manner that is commendable. This way there is hope that Satyam will be able to revive itself. If even the core of the Satyam organization (its so called best employees) are poached, then even the little hope of survival is lost. In a sea of negativity, it is only natural for one to view even humane statements thru colored glasses.
