Pakistan
Islamabad, Jan 3: Pakistan has once again assured the world that it is devoted towards fighting extremism and maintaining peaceful relations with all its neighbours.

Pakistan Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sherry Rehman met British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Robert Brinkley and stated that "Pakistan is steadfast in its commitment towards elimination of extremism and for maintaining peaceful relations with all its neighbors."

Talking about the step that Pakistan has taken to counter terrorism, Sherry said: "Pakistan is aggressively pursuing its own counter-extremism agenda while at the same time also co-operating with the international community in its efforts against terrorism."

Sherry confirmed to the UK official that Pakistan has taken several important steps to comply with the UN Security Council's sanctions against the banned Jamaat -ud- Dawaa and is vigilant against all banned and suspect organizations, in the wake of the Mumbai terror attacks.

Sherry stressed that Pakistan is committed towards regional peace and its relationship with India is of great importance for South-Asia.

"Our government is clear on the importance of maintaining regional peace as a pre-requisite for combating extremism through collaborative efforts," the Dawn quoted Sherry, as saying.

"It is in the interest of Pakistan and India, as well as the international community to urgently reduce the danger of a conflict and protect the India-Pakistan peace process which carries enormous benefits for the whole region," she added.
