Hyderabad, Dec 31: Swapnika, the Andhra girl who suffered serious burn injuries in an alleged acid attack earlier this month, died on Wednesday, Dec 31. After her condition deteriorated Swapnika was put on ventilator. She breathed her last at around 5.30 am.
A final year engineering student from Warangal, Swapnika sustained over 50 pc burns in the acid attack on Dec 10. Doctores said that she was also suffering from multiple organ failures and other complications and could not recover. Meanwhile, Pranita, a friend of Swapnika who also suffered burns are recovering. After postmortem Swapnika's body will be taken to her native.
Swapnika and Pranita, both final year B.Tech students of Kakatiya Institute of Technology and Science (KITS) sustained burn injuries when they were attacked with acid by unidentified persons at Ramaram locality in Warangal town, about 140 km from here. Three days later, the Andhra Pradesh police killed a trio, who were allegedly involved in acid attack on two engineering girl students.
Police shot S Srinivas (25) and his associates Sanjay (22) and Harikrishna (24) on Dec 13 at a desolate location near Pamunur, about 15 km from Warangal. The police action evoked mixed reaction with major opposition parties, including TDP, had demanded a judicial probe.
