New Delhi, Dec 31: The UPA (United Progressive Alliance) government on Wednesday, Dec 31 appointed an Internal Security Advisor in the wake of Mumbai terror attacks. Union Home Minister P Chidambaram told the media persons in a press conference held here.
The National Investigative Agency Bill and Unlawful Activites (Prevention) Amendment Bill became law on Wednesday, after it received the Presidential consent said the Home Minister. President Pratibha Patil gave her consent to those legislations which were passed in the last session of Parliament. He added that the NIA will be constituted on Thursday, Jan 1.
He said the NIA will get its Director General in few days. "NIA will be established to investigate terrorist offences. As and when any case is assigned to the NIA, it will take up investigation," Chidambaram said.
He also told the media that work is in progress to set up 20 counter insurgency and anti-terror schools in the country which will train personnel to tackle cases involving terrorists. Chidambaram said that a round the clock information gathering and sharing centre on terrorism has come into effect from Wednesday, Dec 31.
He said the Ministry will soon bring before the Cabinet a note on establishing National Security Guards hubs in four main cities of the country and more such hubs will be set up in other cities as well. When asked about the cooperation from Pak in Mumbai terror attacks investigation he said, "They are in a state of denial. Everything that we will give will be denied."
Home Minister said that father of Kasav, the only surviving terrorists in Mumbai strikes has appeared before media saying Kasav is his son. "Kasav himself has written to the Pakistan government seeking legal help. What more evidence does Pakistan need," he said.
