Mumbai, Dec 10: Sensex, the Bombay Stock Exchange's benchmark index rose 5.45 per cent or 499.22 points at 9,661.84 after touching a high of 9,678.70. The low was 9,280.16. While National Stock Exchange's Nifty climbed 5.14 per cent or 143.15 points to 2927.15.
The broader market also participated in late trade. BSE Midcap Index closed 2.44 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index gained 1.76 per cent. Stocks across the board witnessed heavy buying activity on Wednesday, Dec 10. But the major performer was realty major DLF which climbed over 21 pc.

The Sensex surged 400 points to 9,563 and the Nifty gained 124 points at 2,907, at 1:40 hours IST. BSE Midcap and Small Cap indices are up 1-1.5 pc.

The Sensex went up 175 points to 9,338 and the Nifty surged 62 points to 2,845, at 10:48 hours IST. BSE Midcap and Small Cap indices gained more than 0.5 per cent. The benchmark indices are trading higher on account of buying in realty, metal, oil, telecom, private banking, technology, power, and capital goods stocks.

Markets open green on Wednesday, Dec 10 morning continuing its Tuesday, Dec 9's rally further. At 9:56 am, the Sensex rose 178 points to 9,341 and the Nifty gained 54 points at 2,838. CNX Midcap Index went up 33.45 points to 3,361. Market breadth is positive; about 339 shares have advanced while 121 shares declined.
An uptrend in SGX Nifty and positive Asian markets are indicating a good day for markets. The major gainers in the morning trade are DLF, Reliance Petroleum, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Infosys, Tata Communication, Reliance Industries and Reliance Communication.
Meanwhile US markets continue to trail due to further layoffs and lowered outlooks. The Dow plunged 242.85 points, or 2.72 pc, to 8,691.33. The S&P 500 index declined 21.03 points, or 2.31 pc, to 888.67. The Nasdaq composite index fell 24.40 points, or 1.55 pc, to 1,547.34.
