Low profile Bakrid for Muslims in India

Bakrid-Muslims praying
Mumbai, Dec 9: On Tuesday, Dec 9 Muslims across India will be celebrating Bakrid. But the festival will be more low profile than usual. In the wake of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks many of the major Muslim organisations have called for simple celebrations on Bakrid.

Maharashtra United Nations Association has asked Muslims to celebrate Eid in a 'low profile' manner due to the recent Mumbai terror attacks. The Coordination Committee of Indian Muslims has appealed to the community to celebrate Eid with simplicity and wear black armbands as a mark of solidarity with the victims.

Dar-ul-Uloom based in Deoband has asked Muslims to pray for those who lost their lives or loved ones and express solidarity with the Mumbaikars on the occasion. Nearly 200 people were killed in the gruesome Mumbai terror strikes. Eid-ul-Azha or Bakri Eid traditionally signifies the feast of sacrifice and marks the end of the pilgrimage to Mecca. Kerala and some other parts of the country observed Eid on Monday, Dec 8.
